Synthesia or D-ID – which one offers better voices?

Synthesia and D-ID both offer a large selection of languages for text-to-speech voiceovers, with Synthesia supporting 130+ languages and D-ID supporting 110+ languages.

Additionally, both platforms offer the ability for users to upload audio files with custom voiceovers, and clone their voices for a custom text-to-speech voice.

What sets Synthesia apart are the auto-captioning, video translation, and AI script generation features, which simplify the process of creating scripts and captions for videos in multiple languages.

Making videos with Synthesia

Synthesia, in comparison is a more robust online video editing tool, that includes a screen recorder, media, animations, transitions, aspect ratios and video analytics. Because of the number of functions and elements you can include in your video, the rendering time is slower than that of D-ID.

As opposed to Synthesia, D-ID does not offer a comprehensive video editing tool in the browser. D-ID's Creative Reality™ Studio allows you to generate avatars, scripts and voiceovers in your browser, but offers no option to create a full video from start to finish.

Since D-ID doesn't offer a full in-browser video editor, there is also no option to add stock or own media. Synthesia, on the other hand, features stock images, videos, stickers, GIFs, music, as well as the option to upload your own media.

Do both platforms offer templates?

Since D-ID's Creative Reality™ Studio offers very limited video editing options, video templates are also not included.

Synthesia’s security & ethics

In contrast, Synthesia has a strict content moderation policy (automated & manual), as well as SSO. The platform recently became SOC 2 Type II certified.

D-ID's security & ethics

As of February 2023, D-ID offers automated content moderation and stricter manual moderation for enterprise user, although during testing videos with profanity in the script were not flagged.

With regards to the security of the platform itself, D-ID does not offer Single Sign-On (SSO) and does not seem to be SOC compliant. Both factors can stand in the way of big enterprises using the software.

How does the customer service compare?

Looking at the most trusted software rating platform (G2), ratings for Synthesia are excellent - 4.7/5 - while D-ID falls short with 3.9/5. Synthesia does have more reviews as well - over 1100 compared to D-ID's 16.

With regards to customer support, Synthesia offers support for all users both by chat and email, whereas D-ID offers customer support through email only.

Both Synthesia and D-ID also have dedicated Customer Success Managers (CSMs) for Corporate/Enterprise plan users.
