A fire can break out anywhere and be extremely destructive, even deadly. Every year, thousands of workplace fires result in injuries and property damage.
Respect the following do's and don'ts to prevent a fire.
- Do not burn materials. Burning materials can lead to an out-of-control fire. Dispose of materials safely and according to local regulations.
- Have fire extinguishers available Fire extinguishers are available at every job site. Make sure you know where they are and how to use them.
- Do not smoke. Smoking is strictly prohibited on all job sites. Smoking is only allowed during breaks and in a special smoking area.
- Weld carefully Use extra caution when welding as sparks and fires can easily occur. Wear protective equipment and remove all flammable materials from the area.
If You Discover a Fire - Keep calm The most important thing is to stay calm and not panic. You cannot help others or defuse the situation if you are panicked.
- Sound the alarm If you have discovered a fire in the workplace, sound the alarm by calling "FIRE" and pull the nearest fire alarm.
- Follow the evacuation plan. Our company has a Fire and Safety Evacuation Plan that is discussed each day before work begins. Follow the steps in the plan to the nearest exit or meeting point.
- Call for help Once out of the danger zone, immediately call emergency services for assistance and report the source of the fire.
By following these simple tips, you can reduce the likelihood of a fire and minimize the damage if you discover one.
