When we talk about data protection and data privacy, GDPR is the first term that comes to our brains. Implemented in 2018, GDPR revolutionized the data protection landscape through its forward-thinking and extensive legal provisions, for protecting personal data, and ensuring continuous security.

Other countries around the globe, have followed suit and updated their existing regulations or have implemented new regulations in this respect. Today, there are more than 120 countries around the world that are actively engaged in creating and implementing international privacy laws to protect the data of their citizens.

At their core, international privacy laws for data protection generally follow five principles.

  • First, they provide notice to the users advising them of the policies in place to protect personal information.
  • Second, they allow the users to choose and provide consent around the use, storage, management, and collection of their personal information.
  • Third, they see to it that only the right people have access to the data.
  • Fourth, they ensure the security of the data and prevent unauthorized access.
  • Fifth and last, they enforce compliance with regulations for the organization collecting the data.
